Awesome Games Done Quick [sic]

Twitch.tv is a popular streaming service for people to stream themselves playing video games. I normally don't find watching people play games very interesting, except now they are currently streaming Games Done Quick. This is an exhibition where many of the world's top speedrunners beat games as quickly as possible in order to raise money for charity. Depending upon the game and the commentary, I think these can be very interesting to watch.

Web 2.0 and social media are integral to the process. In order to practice for class, I have followed Games Done Quick on Facebook, Twitter, and reddit. For the first time, I have also followed the hashtag for Games Done Quick on twitter. This marks the first time I have followed something breaking on Twitter while watching something live.

From Facebook, I learned about when the event was. From Twitter, I learned about others reactions as they were happening. Through reddit, I am able to see people thoughts about it. On YouTube, I can watch the speedruns after they've aired. I can quickly skip through the boring parts and only watch the games I'm interested in.

Overall, it was interesting to try to engage in different forms of social media and Web 2.0 to have a shared experience with others around the world.
