Commented on Everyone's Blogs

Today, I decided to check out everyone in our class's blogs and to leave a message for each person. It took a while to read enough of everyone's blogs and to come up with thoughtful responses. It really gave me an idea about how much work it must be for Dr. Dennen and Taehyeong to stay up with all of our posts across all of the different websites that we use for class!

I do have to say, it was interesting to see so many different styles of blogs. Many of my classmates had widely varying opinions about different social media tools. Some loved Reddit while others hated it. Some liked Fakebook, while others didn't care for it very much. I really like that the internet has basically limitless options for finding ways to improve human communication.

I also found it interesting how many people only did a "this is my first tweet" and nothing more, but still included the Twitter widget on their blogs. :o)

  1. WOW!!! You are amazing :) Great idea, though, to see what it's like to read all of our blogs and find something thoughtful to say on all of them. I saw your comment this morning and replied back. I also find it interesting each week to read about what my classmates say about certain tools. Many times I have found that I agree, but there are times that I don't and that's ok. I think it's great that there are so many tools out there now, so everyone can find something they like!

    1. The biggest takeaway I had is that so many students learned focused on so many different areas of Web 2.0 as it applied to their lives.

  2. That's what I do in each week, but sometimes I was "lurking"!
I was thinking that even though teachers were just reading (=lurking) all students posts', students may not recognize their teacher's efforts because I did not mark my tracks.
This semester is for me a good opportunity to think about "pedagogical lurking" in online interaction!
The term "pedagogical lurking" has been broadly studied, and Dr. Dennen is a famous scholar in the research area.

    1. Thanks for the citation, Taehyeong. If they gave degrees for lurking, I would definitely have a Ph.D. This class encourages me to post but for my other non-class platforms I'm an expert lurker.

  3. Bruce, I did the same thing one week. When I was done I needed a nap. The learning was fantastic but it took a long time. I agree it gave me an insight into how much time it takes to read and assess all of our assignments.

    1. It is quite an ordeal for a class our size with the amount we expected to produce!

  4. Haha. The Twitter point is good. (Not true for me.) Now that you mention it, I need to put that widget on my blog!

By the way, that's a lot of work. I'm sure we all appreciated getting a comment. I'm trying to visit blogs that I don't normally to spice it up. :)

    1. I enjoy reading your blog. You write interesting things!

I used to have that widget, but I removed it trying to verify my Pinterest account. I never bothered to add it back.

  5. Hi Bruce, thanks for the effort to do that! I also tried to read as many blogposts as possible but sometimes it is just impossible! (Our class is toooo big!) But I agree that I also enjoy the diversity of thoughts and perspectives in the class, and interestingly from the writings, it had also revealed to me quite a bit about the character and personality of each of our classmates, which is kind of an interesting way to get to know the folks in here without having seen one another F2F!

    1. In some ways, I feel like I am closer to my classmates in a distance learning class. People seem more willing to share their deeper thoughts and feelings online. It is also distancing when I can't hear their voice nor see their body language.

  6. Very impressive of you to post a comment on everyone's blog! I think I am much more skilled at lurking than participating. LOL. It has been interesting to see the variety in all of our blogs. I have definitely gotten GREAT ideas and insight from periodically checking out classmates' blogs.
